Mauchline has a long history stretching back to the 12th century. A Covenanter flag still hangs in the church, and Robert Burns lived here from 1784. It was in Mauchline that he married Jean Armour, a statue of whom was unveiled in 2002, and he wrote many of his most famous works here. Mauchline has been a centre for clock–making and sandstone quarrying, and today the famous Mauchline ware box–work remains extremely popular and collectible. The town is also famed for the manufacture of curling stones. Today Mauchline has a thriving population of 4100, and s1mauchline.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, publicise events and display photos and videos.
