How to counter the recent spate of vandalism in Mauchline

We've had some problems recently with vandalism, with news reports about the uprooting of more than 50 flowers from the Burns planters made specially for the Homecoming year and the Holy Fair and damage to the new 'vandal resistant' public toilets.

Councillor David Shaw responded by saying the root of the problem is a lack of facilities in the area, and that the young folk of Mauchline are not bad people, just bored people. According to him there are plans to set up a Club for 13-17 year old youngsters to provide a place where young people can go to at night.

There are some bored and some bad people going about. I have had someone 2 weeks ago trying to steal products from our shop who actually went to school with me and the person working at the time. So not in the 13-17 year old bracket. Has he no shame? Infact this person mentioned to me when stealing was happening a few years ago "Don't tar us all with the same brush!" These words have been ringing in my ears since.

If I can help with any solution to this problem please get in contact.
