MacMillan 100
The 2010 Tour of Britain cycle event will once again take place over eight days, beginning in Rochdale on Saturday 11th September and finishing at the heart of London on Saturday 18th September. THERE WILL BE NO SCOTTISH STAGE. http://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/_ns_race/
The Scottish stage used to include Drumlanrig Estate and once went through New Cumnock. Seeing as there is no Scottish Stage, would it make sense to organise an annual event of our own beginning in 2012?
The true bicycle was invented by Kirkpatrick McMillan who, in June 1842, rode his new contraption 62 miles from Drumlanrig Estate in Dumfriesshire, north up the (A76) road to Glasgow. It took him a couple of days.
Why not commemorate this event by holding a rally with bikes of all shapes and sizes along the same route?
Kirkconnel holds its gala every June and pays a small fortune to have a diversion from the A76. Why not have the rally on that day and raise funds for MacMillan Nurses?
