MSP calls for roadworks compensation for Mauchline businesses

  • MSP Cathy Jamieson has called for compensation for Mauchline businesses affected by the A76 roadworks

Mauchline's MSP has called for local businesses to be compensated for lost income during the roadworks on the A76.

In her weekly briefing, she said: "I have once again contacted the Scottish Government regarding the knock on impact of the road works on the A76.

"I had previously pushed the Government to consider possible compensation for the businesses in New Cumnock and Mauchline, which are being affected by the ongoing works.

"In these tough economic times, no-one wants to see any businesses suffering because essential road repairs are being undertaken. I have therefore suggested to the Scottish government that if compensation has been ruled out, they could offer some assistance, possibly in the way of temporary rates relief."

Yes I think that these businesses should be compensated for any loss of busness/trade. We all know that that the upgrade is necessary,but to be denied compensation for loss of earnings through no fault of your own is in my opinion is totally wrong.
