MSP wants to hear from anyone who might be adversely affected by road works
15 FebruaryCathy Jamieson MSP says:
Last week I reported on proposals to undertake work on the A76 through Mauchline, and a number of people have contacted me in response. I am keen to hear from anyone in the area who might be adversely affected by the road works - particularly people who have disabilities and need access to their car at all times.
I have been in touch with people who live directly adjacent to the A76, and whose driveways may be off limits at certain times, but if anyone else is concerned please let me know and I will put AMEY / Transport Scotland in touch with you.

Cathy Jamieson MSP says:
I have called on Transport Scotland and AMEY to begin informing Mauchline residents of the impact of the planned resurfacing of the A76 through the village, which will take place over the summer. Along with Cllr David Shaw, I met with representatives of the roads agencies to hear more about the timetable.
Everyone knows that the resurfacing work is badly needed. It was postponed from last year, to avoid causing problems for major Burns events in Mauchline. It makes sense to undertake the work when there is likely to be less traffic on the road, but there will still be major disruption, with buses and heavy vehicles diverted away from Mauchline.
People living on the main road through Mauchline will have restricted access to their driveways at certain times, and there will be one weekend when Mauchline Cross is completely closed off to allow major work to be completed.
The scale of the works means that there will be inconvenience for local residents, but that can be minimised if people are fully aware of what to expect and make plans to deal with it. I have asked AMEY and Transport Scotland to start talking to people now, rather than wait until the work is imminent. They have assured me that they will notify businesses and residents of the details, and publicise the plans in the local press.
I have also pressed Transport Scotland to install a crossing on the A76, near the Burns Memorial Homes in Mauchline, following repeated requests from local residents. Residents have to cross the busy A76 if they want to take a bus to Auchinleck or Cumnock, or walk into to the village, as there is no pavement on their side of the road. Transport Scotland has received a report which suggests that there is no need for a crossing. However, the people who need to cross the road disagree. I have written to the Transport Minister, asking him to intervene and ensure that local residents' views are listened to, and tabled a motion in Parliament to emphasise the strong feeling locally.
