Top Higher exam award for Mauchline girl Carol
15 NovemberCelebrations were the order of the day for Carol Nairn from Mauchline, who has won a prestigious award for her excellent performance in the Advanced Higher exams.
Carol, 18, a former Auchinleck Academy pupil, received a cheque as part of the McIlwraith Award, a bequeathal to Auchinleck Academy from the will of the late Agnes McIlwraith. Carol achieved an amazing hat-trick of grade A passes in Advanced Higher Maths, Chemistry and French.
The talented all-rounder is now in first year at Strathclyde University, studying Chemical Engineering.
Auchinleck Academy Headteacher Peter Gilchrist said: ““Congratulations to Carol on an outstanding performance - and best wishes for the future, which, I am sure, will be a very successful one”
Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning Councillor Jim Roberts said: “Carol’s exam achievement is an outstanding one, especially at Advanced Higher level. Her success is well-deserved and she is a credit to her former school, her teachers and her family”.
