What is happening with the A76 in Mauchline
23 MarchI met with Transport Minister Stewart Stevenson to press the case for an early start to the Maybole by pass and for further work to be done on a by pass for Mauchline. The Minister reiterated that the transport Review had produced 29 projects, of which 4 have been prioritized. The other 25, which would include the work on the A77, have not been ranked in any order of priority. I will continue to press the case as hard as I can.
In relation to the A76, and the ongoing problems in Mauchline, I also made clear that local people are very annoyed at the state of the road, and expect to see early action taken. Officials from transport Scotland have offered to meet with the Community Council to look at how best the work might be phased to avoid disrupting Homecoming events. I was rather surprised however to drive through the village at the weekend and see new yellow lines being painted on the road - before the holes have been filled in and much needed resurfacing being done!
Update 23/03/2009:
Major construction work on the A76 in Mauchline has been shelved until next year, the Chronicle reports.
Work was scheduled to start at Mauchline Cross later this year but highways agency Amey say that with several events in the village for the Year of Homecoming, it has been decided to delay road works until next year.
Local authorities, Mauchline Community Council and community representatives will be consulted in the near future.
